The research group "cryoEM of complex nanosystems" at the Center for Soft Nanoscience /University is offering a job position, initially limited for 2 years.

Full-time with 100%
Remuneration according to TV-L E13

The overall aim of the project is to improve our understanding of the architecture of the yeast peroxisome using cryoEM single particle analysis/cryo-electron tomography and advanced image processing workflows. We aim to elucidate the in situ structures of macromolecular complexes that play a critical role in peroxisomal biogenesis and peroxisomal disorders.
The line of research will be carried out using the new state-of-the-art cryo-EM infrastructure recently established at the Centre for Soft Nanoscience, including:

  • a Titan KRIOS G4 microscope with Falcon 4i detector and SelectrisX energy filter
  • an Aquilos II cryoFIBSEM with iFLM and lift-out
  • a Talos 120C screening cryoEM
  • access to state of the art GPU clusters and cloud storage

Your tasks:

  • CryoEM sample preparation
  • Optimise workflows for cryo-correlative light and electron microscopy (cryoCLEM)
  • Preparation of thin cryo lamellae for cryoET (cryoFIB milling)
  • CryoET/image processing/sub-tomogram averaging
  • CryoEM single particle analysis
  • Molecular modelling

Our expectations:

  • Applicants must have a PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or a similar scientific field
  • Experience in cryoEM/structural biology
  • Experience in structure elucidation by cryo-electron tomography and in the use of the corresponding software packages would be an advantage
  • Good IT skills; experience with Python is an advantage
  • A good command of written and spoken English
  • Furthermore, soft skills such as the ability to work in a team, communication skills, organisational skills and independent working methods are required

We offer:

  • Our team, led by Prof Gatsogiannis, consists of over 12 researchers, postdocs, engineers and PhD students of different nationalities, forming a friendly and dynamic group.
  • Your new workplace is located in a world-class interdisciplinary research centre in Münster. with state-of-the-art cryoEM equipment and a modern protein biochemistry and cell biology laboratory.
  • Targeted, individual training and development opportunities
  • A highly collaborative research environment

If you have any questions in advance, please contact Prof. Dr. Christos Gatsogiannis, T 0251 83 34411.

Please submit your candidacy by 13.12.2023 via our online application form!
