The Clinical Epidemiology Unit (clinicalepi.de) uses and develops modern statistical and mathematical methods for the analysis of primary and secondary data. A particular focus of the Unit is the application of dynamic mathematical modelling approaches to simulate the spread of infectious agents in human populations. The Unit coordinates the Interdisciplinary Center of Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Disease Dynamics (IMMIDD; uni-muenster.de/IMMIDD) at the University of Münster, and is one of the partners in the Modeling Network for Severe Infectious Diseases (MONID; monid.net) in Germany – ideally with you on board!

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Being in charge of the modelling work in a third-party funded project on the future potential of vector-borne diseases in Germany and potential countermeasures, which might include analysis and comparisons with the dynamics in tropical countries (VBD-mode, funded by BMFTR; https://clinicalepi.de/projects/vbd-mode.html)
  • Collaborating closely with national and international partners from various disciplines in academia and public health agencies
  • Participating in the build-up of a new research field in Germany
  • Adding key evidence to an important and up-to-date research topic
  • Publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed international journals

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Master’s degree and (preferably) PhD e.g. in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Physics or related discipline
  • Experience in mathematical modelling, statistical inference, simulation studies, and data analysis
  • Expert knowledge in relevant programming languages (e.g. R, Python, Julia, C++)
  • Analytical and structured way of working, good team and communication skills, as well as a sense of responsibility and quality awareness
  • Excellent English language skills, German skills are a plus
