Full-time
Salary according to German TV-L E13

The Institute of Cellular Virology, associated with the Centre of Molecular Biology of Inflammation and headed by Prof. Dr. Mario Schelhaas, is embedded within a vibrant research environment and part of various research networks.

Our research focuses on investigating host-pathogen interactions with a strong emphasis on cell biological mechanisms. The successful applicant(s) will join an exciting research program in a dynamic and international group to investigate the molecular mechanisms on how small DNA tumor viruses infect cells and how cell niche influences infection and its outcome. For this, we use a variety of techniques specializing in various imaging modalites. In this particular project, we aim to identify and characterize (extra)cellular ligand interactions facilitating and modulating infection during particular cell states.

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in cell biology, microbiology, virology or similar
  • Excellent publication record
  • Strong commitment to research, and high motivation for interdisciplinary work
  • Strong background in cell biology or virology
  • Documented experience in live cell imaging and computational image analysis

The following qualifications are considered an asset:

  • Experience in superresolution microscopy, electron microscopy, or correlative light and electron microscopy
  • Experience in working with complex cell cultures (epithelial models, organoids)

We offer:

  • An international, young and dynamic working environment
  • Research laboratories with state-of-the art equipment including advanced high- and super-resolution microscopes
  • International and interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Excellent possibilities for career development, i.e. optaining a postdoctoral lecture qualification
