Fixed-term of 3 years | Part-time with 65% (25 hours/week) | Salary according to TV-L E13 | Institute of Physiology I, starting from 1st of October 2025

We are UKM. We have a clear social mission and, with our focus on healthcare, research, and teaching, we bear a unique responsibility.

To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise at the Institute of Physiology I – ideally with you on board!

The RTG Chembion is positioned at the University of Münster. Thirteen scientists of the University of Münster have teamed up with their complementary expertise to study chemical biology of ion channels. We tackle questions in the field of ion channels with innovative structural, chemical methods, interconnecting chemistry, pharmacology, and medicine and foster the internationalization of young researchers. Further information can be found on our website.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position is linked to the research group of Dr. Annika Lüttjohann (Institute of Neurophysiology). We are interested in the cellular and network mechanisms responsible for the generation of spike and wave discharges, the electrophysiological hallmark of absence epilepsy. The project is aimed to investigate the effects of novel potassium channel modulators (K2P and Kv7) on physiological and pathophysiological network activity in a genetic rodent model of absence epilepsy, which will be investigated in close collaboration within the ChemBion training group.

We will provide a structured 3-year cutting-edge Ph.D. student training program in and beyond the fields mentioned above.

REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Ph.D. student holding a state examination degree in pharmacy or, alternatively, a master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or neurobiology. Excellent command of spoken and written English, communication skills as well as team spirit are essential. German language skills are not a requirement, but a willingness to learn is desirable. As the project involves work with laboratory rodents a FELASA certificate or an equivalent qualification is highly desirable

For inquiries, please contact: Dr. Annika Lüttjohann, T 0251 83-55531
